Ozarks Weather Fans

A community to talk about our wild, wacky, ever-changing Ozarks weather!

For any of you who might be interested in learning more about amateur radio, this weekend is a great opportunity! Starting Saturday at noon and ending Sunday at noon will be Field Day. This is an annual special event that has several purposes and the public is welcome to join in.

1) Amateur operators set up remote operations with radio equipment assisting them in being prepared to activate in the case of an emergency

2) Once radios and antennas are in place, contacts are made all over the world

3) It is a contest between the participating stations so can be fun too

4) Is a great opportunity for the public to come and learn about ham radio operations and with a licensed amateur operator sitting beside you, you too can talk on the radio!

If we have a satellite or space station going over during the event I will also be demonstrating how we make contacts either by bouncing a radio signal off a satellite or will make an attempt to contact the space station! I will be investigating those possibilities before the week is out.

One location you can witness this is the Price Cutter parking lot at the corner of Grand and Kansas. There will be another in Willard, another in Marshfield and another in Nixa. I apologize I am uncertain of the other locations, but most have been mentioned in local news media. Jeff M. or Rich? Do you know?

If I can take the heat... I will be cooking burgers. For sure we will have plenty of cold drinks! Come join us!
